Getting to Nový Smokovec, Slovak Republic

By plane

The most comfortable way to Nový Smokovec by plane is via Košice (KSC) airport (connection with Prague, Warsaw and Vienna) however the connection is infrequent. (How to reach Košice railway station from Košice airport read down).

There are more frequent flights to airports in Bratislava (BTS) and Vienna (VIE) with frequent connections to Bratislava Main Station (Hlavná stanica). (How to reach Bratislava railway station from airports of Bratislava and Vienna read down)

Note: It is also possible to use Airports located in Poprad, Prague, Brno, Krakow, Katowice and Budapest, however the connection to Nový Smokovec is rather complicated or infrequent.

By train

From Bratislava main station (Bratislava hlavná stanica) it is recommended to take a IC (InterCity train) to Poprad Tatry going 4 times a day taking 3.5 hours; or the R (Rapid) train which is slower but runs 8 times a day taking 4.5 hours. IC trains are compulsory seat reservation trains. Standard tickets are not valid in IC trains.

From Košice several IC and R trains up to 11 daily to Poprad Tatry.

From Vienna main station (Wien Hauptbahnhof) you can use also direct IC train to railway station Poprad-Tatry, it runs only once a day at 2:42 PM (travel time 5 hrs), return to Vienna at 8:18 AM from Poprad-Tatry. Connections between Vienna Airport and railway station you can find here.

From Poprad Tatry to Starý Smokovec (up to 23 daily, every 30-60 minutes from 5:02 to 22:44). After reaching Poprad Tatry railway station you have to go upstairs (inside the station building above platforms for conventional trains) to a separate platform for local electric trains to Starý Smokovec (in direction Štrbské Pleso). Beware of using trains of companies RegioJet and LEO Express and SC trains Pendolino, they have specific tariff conditions. Standard tickets are not valid in this trains.

By Bus

Bus connections between Bratislava and Poprad are non-frequent (only 2 direct buses per day) but can take up to 6 or 7 hours. (For shuttle busses from Bratislava and Vienna airports read down).

By car

When travelling by car, please note that in Slovakia, you need to have a highway-toll ticket, which can be bought at any petrol station. The precise geographical location of the venue is: 49.138215,20.217455.

Coming from the west by Road E50 or D1, i.e. from Žilina, you follow E50 up to Tatranská Štrba where you turn to the left in the direction to Štrbské Pleso. Then drive in the direction to Starý Smokovec/Smokovce. After passing by the sign announcing the city limits of Nový Smokovec/Smokovce you will see the conference venue Hotel Bellevue.

Coming from the east by Road E50, i.e. from Prešov or Košice, you will first pass through Poprad where you should watch for the signs directing you to Starý Smokovec/Smokovce. in Poprad continue on n. 534 (High Tatras) to Nový Smokovec. After coming to Starý Smokovec/Smokovce and crossing the railroad, turn immediately to the left, follow the main street in Smokovce for about 1 km.

Coming from the north, i.e. from Poland, cross the border in Lysa Polana/Javorina, follow the signs for Tatranská Lomnica and then to Starý Smokovec/Smokovce. After crossing the city limits of Horný Smokovec/Smokovce, follow the main street for about 2 km.

How to reach Košice railway station from Košice airport

Košice city public transport company operates a regular bus service, No.23, which connects the airport of Košice with the downtown (15 minutes, 10-23 daily).

How to reach Bratislava railway station from Vienna and Bratislava airports

From Vienna airport you can reach Bratislava using shuttle buses operated by RegioJet (16 daily, terminal 3, platform 3) or Slovak lines/FlixBus/Postbus (runs every hour, terminal 3, platform 4). You can go to Bratislava Airport (75 minutes) or get off in Bratislava downtown (60 minutes) and continue using public urban transport.

Note that shuttle bus companies may have different platforms, please verify at the airport the exact location of the bus stop. Shuttle bus service is from 3:55 till 0:45.

Bratislava airport is connected with the main railway station by the bus line 61 (25 minutes duration at intervals of 8-20 minutes, service starts at 4:40 and ends at 23:30).

Note that for urban transportation services you must always purchase a ticket before you board the bus (tram, etc.) and validate them once on board. In Bratislava, you can buy tickets with Euro in the yellow ticket machines (on the bus stops), red ticket machines (inside the arrival terminal) and in some kiosks. All red ticket machines and some yellow ticket machines allow you to pay with debit and credit card.
